Ecuador debutó con victoria en la Copa Mundial, derrotando por 2 tantos contra 0 al anfitrión Qatar.

Ecuador salió con todo desde el minuto inicial. De esa forma, en la primera jugada en el área de Qatar, le sacó provecho a un serie de rebotes.

La Tri aprovechó el nerviosismo de los locales para ganar por 2 a 0 y desatar el primer festejo sudamericano. Un inspirado Enner Valencia, dio la victoria de su conjunto, con dos goles.
